Mission

" তমসো মা জ্যোতির্গময়।
"অন্ধকার হইতে জ্যোতিতে লইয়া যাও"

Vivekananda College, named after the iconic Swami Vivekananda, embodies his spirit of "Education for Empowerment." We strive to illuminate the paths of both urban and rural youth - the middle class of south Kolkata's suburbs and the underprivileged of South Bengal. Guided by "Tomoso ma jyotirgamoy" (from darkness, lead us to light), we offer diverse programs catering to the specific needs of the student community. Through quality education, we empower them to step into a brighter future. Established in 1950 as Barisha College under the Dispersal Scheme of the State Government, Vivekananda College underwent a significant transformation when it relocated to its current premises adjacent to the school compound in 1953.

With more than 70 years of successful operation, the college has cultivated sufficient physical and human resources essential for achieving academic excellence. Through innovative teaching methods, continuous self-assessment, and a supportive learning environment, we strive to empower students from various socio-economic backgrounds to achieve academic excellence, pursue their passions, and become responsible global citizens. The dedicated staff members strive to equip students with the necessary tools to excel in a competitive world, offering quality higher education to facilitate their seamless transition into the next phases of life. Emphasizing overall personality and skill development, the college fosters a healthy academic atmosphere both inside classrooms and across the campus.
